Personally i say it depends of the skink. I have 3 blotchies and an Eastern - and all my blotchies look healthy yet my eastern looks thin, and they all get basically the same amount of food - if not - the Eastern generally gets more due to her being a pig. How do i come to this conclusion? BTS store fat at the base of the tail (right near the back legs). If this part of the tail is sunken and you see a prominant ridge in the middle - chances are your bluey needs some fattening up. I will have a look for a picture showing this ridge so you will know exactly what i mean.

Alot of keepers will generally feed the thin blueys a few pinkie mice to quickly gain some weight - this is due to protien, plus they love them!

Hope this helped!

here is the pic I was thinking about. See how there is a ridge at the top of the tail then it sinks on either side? - this is a tell tale sign you need to fatten those guys up! My eastern is no where near this bad - however she does need to gain weight before she goes to sleep for the winter. As you may know - this pic is not a BTS - however - the point remains the same!

so sorry for using up 3 posts for this answer - So you've seen the thin side - basically the fat side is the opposite, Large tail base, blown out to extraordinary size, and trouble moving around are all key things to look for when checking to see if you have a lardarse Bluey I suggest that you take a look at stingrays Northern in the phot gallery - or if he reads this post, he may even post it for you. It is by far the biggest northern I have seen.

Hi Stacy,
I made Sydney his own web page. Check it out http://jwarnick.com/sydney/
The last two pictures I took today. Do you think he's starting to get fat?
Should I cut back on food?
Take care,
Jill

Thanks for replying. If you go to http://jwarnick.com/sydney/ and look at the last two pictures that were taken today, perhaps then you can tell me if my BTS is getting fat.
Thanks again.
Jill
