Colour changes in male hognose..

snakeskin Mar 26, 2004 12:16 PM

after his last shed my male hognose came out quite a bit lighter than he was previous..

Anybody knows what might be the cause of this?

Might it be a kennerly instead of nasicus nasics? or a "hypo" ?
He looked like this before: obviously the male is smaller and on top

And now he looks like this...

WHOA!!!!! THATS A CONSIDERABLE COLOR CHANGE....maybe u do have a hypo...awesome!!! still a great looking snake...thats incredible

Relative to other snakes, apparently hogs shed less often. Since they ALWAYS darken before a shed and lighten afterwards, this change may be more evident in a snake that sheds less often and is therefore, darker for a longer period of time. Although yours was drastic, I wouldn't consider it to be anything other than normal.

That's a nice looking guy. I have one like him that's real light like that. Almost like a hypo. What do his belly scales look like? Hypo's aren't supposed to have hardly any black I belive.

P.s. after looking at the pic closer. He has a black tounge and I don't think that "true" hypo's are supposed to. Nice snake though.
