Westron R-40 60w spot question

heartmountain Mar 26, 2004 01:04 PM

Has anybody tried this bulb? I was just over on Veronica's site and according to it this thing can put out as much as 1730uW/cm2 (brand new) compared to a reptisun 5.0 at 10uW/cm2 (both measured at 12". Does anybody here use this and is it really that much better? Is there any danger with it giving too much UV? Also over on Westrons site they list a Reptile bulb, does anyone know how this compares?

Thanks
Sean

and they said that the UVB output is correct for the R-40. Westron sells an "Iguana Light" for $35. It has a separate ballast, which is an additional $30. So for $65 you can get their bulb. I should've asked if this "Iguana Light" is the same as the R-40.

Also, this site has more info on this bulb ...

I'm thinking that if I used a bulb with that much UVB that the reptile wouldn't need to be under it for that long. On an average day in Australia, the UVB intensity is between 50 - 200. This bulb emits way more than that!

Good luck and let me know if you decide to get it. I'm interested in how it well it works.
