corn not wanting to eat

shadowdragon Mar 26, 2004 01:17 PM

my 2 year old female corn snake has stoped eating. she has never refused to eat in the year and half that i have had her. her setup is the warm side is at 75/80 the cool side is at about 70. she has always eaten thawed mice. the last tow times she has started to eat then she spits it out. any help would be welcome thank you.

If she is spitting them out she either hates the taste which is strange but not unheard of...You might want to consider to buy new mice maybe from a different company...because somethimes the mice can pick of funky flavors from the freezer...Also even though you have fed her those size mice before you may want to try something one size down...she may be spitting them out because she feels they are to large. Also you havent had her with any other snake have you? she could possibly be pregnant if you have. And it may be parasites or stress of any kind...if none of my other ideas work and she doesnt eat for awhile try a vet of course. Hope some of my ideas work for you.

But first, yes, is she "backing off" from her meals, or swallowing and then puking?

If she is just plain not feeling hungry enough to do her usual chow down, and it has only been a week or two (or three for that matter) it might not be a big deal at all, even though she's been a good eater in the past. Many corns (and other ratsnakes) as they grow, will go for brief periods of fasting.

If she's eating and puking...That's a different story. You will want to back off for 10 days and start VERY small. Duffy
