Female green harrasing my male green...odd.

cacarr Mar 26, 2004 04:10 PM

I've kept anoles for about 5 years now. Have one male and female carolinensis in a 55 gallon. Just observed my dainty, little female display at the male and chase him to the other side of the tank. Can't say I've observed this behavior before.

I have a male and female too, and my female can get like that - she bobs her head and displays her dewlap, and if he bugs her enough she'll snap at him. I thought it was weird too at first but a vet told me that it's probably because the male's ready to mate and the female doesn't want to, so she's being aggressive.

I've seen no sign of him becoming interested yet. She, however, is probably a bit aware of his intrest than am I.

She only gets agressive like this after feeding.

Anyhow, it's funny to see my male being run off by a lizard half his size.
