Leopard Gecko hemi-peni question...

Sypha Mar 26, 2004 06:57 PM

I recently purchased a beautiful pale female leopard gecko and stuck it in a cage with another female and one of my males. Of course, he couldn't help himself after her arrival and loved on her lots... The only problem is... his hemi-peni stay outside and get dry. I've provided a humidty box, but he never goes in there... and I give him a bath once in a while when he has a hard time shedding(He wouldn't be having the hard time if he'd use the box). Is there a solution to this problem? I doubt this could be good for a gecko's mating habits to always have parts of him that should be wet, dry out.

Well one you are supose to quarentine all animals before you get them so you should probably seperate that female as soon as you can.And if the hemipenes are still out you should give him a bath in sugar water for 15 minutes and if that doesnt work call a vet.

Ah, this is not a one-time scenario. This has been happening to him for a while. But, this is the latest insurgence of problems. The last time it happened, I soaked him in water and the problem went away. Perhaps he has a defect?

Okay. But thanks for trying to help where you could. It is appreciated.

It's probably a problem that will never go away...and you probably shouldn't breed him because of it. I obviously don't know that for sure...you should ask your vet.
