first hatchlings!!!

npohworks Mar 26, 2004 07:08 PM

Well I am very excited to announce that on the 24th and 25th of this month my boyfriend and I hatched our very first two cresties. They came out all on their own while we were sleeping (we heard they can sometimes have trouble breaking the shell? ours seemed to do fine). right now they are in separate critter keepers, moist paper towel bottom with a couple of small sprigs of fake leafy vines to crawl on and tiny hide spots made out of tagboard. one had completely shed and the other has partially shed, and we've provided them each with a dollop of crested gecko diet. Is there anything else we should be doing? I know the first few weeks of any new baby's life are going to be the hardest so any and all advice is appreciated.

Also....
The father is a bright banana yellow dalmation, while the mother is a very pale olive/lavendar buckskin. Both of these babies, however, are very dark red with yellow flame patterns on their tails, and one has a dark almost tiger stripe pattern on his back. Do the babies get lighter as they get older or is this how they're going to be? Gosh their pretty. And so teeny!! sorry, my excitement and elation cannot be contained.

Many times, Cresteds hatch out a reddish color, which they begin to lose within the first 2-3 weeks.

Just make sure you keep them fairly humid, so that they don't have any shedding trouble.
