Aluminum to glass?

Dezertdude Mar 26, 2004 08:15 PM

Ok, I've given up on my dreams of a hinged front viv. After trying several different adhesives (marine GOOP, 2 types of silicon), I can't seem to get my a good bond between the acrylic hinges and glass. So, with that out the window, I thought about making the front be a vertically sliding pane, held in place by aluminum angle pieces on each side. Would silicon suffice for this? Has anyone tried to attach aluminum to glass?

Wait!! Don't give up on the acrylic hinge! Go to your local True Value hardware and pick up a tube of LEXEL clear adhesive. I am very happy so far with using it to bond acrylic hinges, handles, etc. to glass. Give it a try. I haven't used it on the inside of the tank for anything, as it says not for aquariums. I suspect if it's fully cured it probably would be ok.

One might even try "Gorilla Glue"
