Always sad when we lose any dedicated herper.

You grew up in Houston?? Cool, some of my favorite areas to canoe and reptile hunt are in the outskirts of Houston, particularly around the Friendswood area and,.. ironically,.. down through Damon. I love the intricate waterways, canals and rivers that flow every which way. It's changed a little in the last 20 years, but back in the early 80's it was still quite wild and natural. Have you ever gotten out there?

I was just down in the Brazos Bend State Park alligator watching today. Saw a huge gator resting on one of the little islands seperated from the trail by water. He had to be at least 12 feet long. The only one I have seen live that was larger was in the Okefenokee Swamp Park in southeast Georgia. That one was 14 feet long and was so big it didn't even look like an alligator anymore. It looked like a dinosaur or something that would be seen in a science fiction movie. Today was a great gator watching day. I saw at least 25 and many of them were over 7 feet. Very exciting. Some day I would like to keep at least one of my own but for now I will just appreciate them in their natural habitat.

Brzaos Bend is a great place to see alligators. I go there often as well. I've seen as few as 4 and as many as 100 alligators there. There are quite a few big alligators there.
