Help me pick out a tank

antonm Mar 26, 2004 10:53 PM

Right now, my two tokays are living in a tank thats 48Lx18Wx18H. It is a tank that I got for free so I've been using it as a temp. I want to give them more hight which I know they prefer. The tank that I was looking for would be 48Lx18Wx36H. Would the air in such a tall tank get stagnated? If so suggestions are welcome on how to keep that from happening. I am considering getting the sides made of screen that way there is more ventilation and I can put computer fans to run wind through the side. My other consideration was to add on a tank the same size as mine onto the top of mine. They make attachments which have no bottom which basically make for a 2 piece tank of the version I mentioned above. This would be much easier to clean but would be all glass and not screen like I planned. Let me know what you guys think, any other suggestions on how to make a perfect tokay environment are welcome.

I don't think there would be any problem with air exchange in a large tank vs. a smaller. A tank with a screen top should have sufficient air exchange through the daily heating/cooling cycles without having screen sides and powered airflow as well. You'll also have to watch the humidity more with screen sides than with all glass. Finally, tokays don't like to hang on screen. Sounds like your tank add-on idea is a good one.
