I have no experience with these tortoises, but I would hesitate to have such a potentially large tortoise (up to 100 pounds) as my first pet tortoise.
Here's a caresheet on them:
I rarely will say no to any 'first tortoise' but unless you can find a CB animal the Burmese Mt. tortoise is difinately not a good first tortoise.
I believe Vic Morgan has a web page. Do a web search for him and see what you find. That's where you'll get the best info on this species.
Not only do they get big but they like it very humid and close to moist. The WC imports are notorious for being heavily infested with parasites and it normally takes a great deal of work to acclimate them.
