Silkworms - silly question.. LOL

CrittersMailToo Mar 26, 2004 11:42 PM

I just got silkworms and eggs; I plan on colonizing my own not only for the better nutrional value, but because my son has lost way too many crickets in the house, I'm tired of stepping on them, and tired of hearing them! LOL Not to mention I can leave these in his cage in a bowl for feeding... the pro list goes on and on, doesn't it?

My question is this - when feeding, is the silk they spin a concern? Sorry if I'm asking a question that has been answered somewhere, but on all the sites I've seen about feeding silkies, nothing was ever mentioned about this.

I fed some to our dragon today and he loved it until he got one that had a strand of silk on it - it tickled his nose, he did the headshake thing and looked at me like I was nuts. hehe, but it was cute. After that he had enough and huffed off like I was insane. Granted, it was a first, and I'm sure he'll gobble more tomorrow like the pig he is, but since this is new for me, too, I just want to make sure there isn't a concern.

Thanks, y'all,
The Mom half
