I use reptile carpet. Cheap, easy to clean, and no danger of impaction. I am very leery about using sand for these guys because of their small size, although I'm sure many will say they have used sand without any problems. In my experience they have always been very aggressive feeders taking strong lunges at prey, so I stopped keeping them on sand after a few weeks to be on the safe side. Maybe I'm overly cautious, but a dead gecko's no good to anyone. And the reptile carpet looks at least marginally naturalistic.

Good luck with your bandeds.

Chris
