I live on Long Island New York and was wondering how you can find out where garters hibernate. It is almost April an they will be coming out soon. I would like to catch one and was also wondering where are good places to look for them? like under logs? How can you tell when they are going to come out of hibernation?

I walked down into the woods, found a sunny place and had reallllllly good luck. I found 4 today and took 1 home with me. Tey were sliding around on the leaves. The biggest and darkest one I found was blended into the leave. Scared the $hit outta me cuz it was about to hit my foot. Just look low on the ground and on any rock that is warm...
