Pacman questions

Cokeofman Jun 12, 2003 03:32 PM

I'm planning to buy a Pacman frog and I have some questions.

1.If I buy a quite young frog, is it ok if I have som kind of soil as substrate. Like Bed-A-Beast (Don't know if they have it here in Sweden, but who knows)?

2.How often and how much should I feed my frog, and when he/she gets bigger how should I feed then, more, less?

3.What lightning do I have to have, and heat source. I've heard undertank heating is good.

4.How often should I spray/Mist the tank?

5.How often do I have to change it's water and the substrate?

6.They look really cool!

I would feed every few days to young frogs. I spray my tank down everyday and also have a large shallow water dish so he can get in and out also if he is really small put a few river rocks(clean of course) so there is no deep water just make sure he can't swallow them and take them out once he gets bigger.
Yes they are really cool but buy some plastic feeding tongs because they are aggressive going after there food,I just got nipped today,he missed the big earthworm and went for my finger, luckly he is still small so it didn't hurt but I learned my lesson!! Here he is.... his name is Chubbs!!

If you get a very small one, I would use papertowels.

2.How often and how much should I feed my frog, and when he/she gets bigger how should I feed then, more, less?

Small frogs should eat every other day or so. Adults should be fed a larger meal but less often.

3.What lightning do I have to have, and heat source. I've heard undertank heating is good.

I like over head heat lamps. This way the frog can burrow to escape heat, unlike heat pads. It is more natural.

4.How often should I spray/Mist the tank?

These frogs do not need as high of humidity as everyone thinks. Maybe once or twice a week

5.How often do I have to change it's water and the substrate?

I would use a water bowl and change it daily. As for substrate, papertowels should be changed daily. Bed a beast can be changed every 2 wks to a month.

I completely agree with Andy on that. That's basically how I raise my horned frogs.
