PA-herping in the rain

Langly2112 Jun 12, 2003 03:34 PM

Took a walk-started out as rainy and then got really sickeningly humid-guess the herps liked it-saw the following:

a bunch of 5-lined skinks
1-Timber rattler
2-Copperheads
1-garter
1-racer
1-milksnake

has anyone else noticed that herps like overcast humid warm to hot days? Keeping in mind I only walked about 1/2 mile.

I went biking along the power lines which is very swampy with some dry areas. The day was very humid like you said and I saw without really trying, a large surprisingly friendly, black racer, a nest of about 10 - 15 northern water snakes munching on frogs and large tadpoles,These guys had no fear of me and could care less if I was around, and I saw 1 very large snapper heading across the trail. Not a bad bike ride in central NJ.
