IRBA San Diego ... once again =(

genaroleon Mar 27, 2004 02:09 PM

man ohh man... again it was a dissapointment. Not many boas to look at, little supplies, not many vendors... I think this is my last time going (hehe yea right).

Something did catch my eye though.. a huge crocadile on display.. at first i thought it was fake, since the thing had no restraints and the only thing sepperating it from the crowd was a cloth tarp...

Steve and I went just to check it out and being the time of year when people with boas are JUST starting to get babies we weren't expecting much, but this was the worst show we've been too as far as boas go, I think we saw one Hypo, who wasnt for sale and that maybe it... There were two albino ball pythons but i was looking for the boas... Anyways the Croc was very very cool to see, and so where the giant retics in that same stand but over all a very sad poor showing for animals... hopefully the ones later in the year will be better, i know we will continue to go, but it is more for a love of the animals and the people we see then for the prospecs of actually buying something...

Sincerely,
Rose Hipskind

Hi,

I was a vendor at that IRBA show in San Diego three times, last was in '99.. We did the October show and enjoyed it. I got to meet many new people and see different animals.

I'm thinking of again working that show this Fall, and I've heard a couple of remarks similar to yours that the show was a little slow.. What do you think, would it be worthwhile for a boa guy to make a trip from Texas?

Thanks for any advice..

Gus

that the Oct. San Diego IRBA show is the best one in SoCal. I've been going for many years now and that one is consistantly the best attended, at least by vendors and animals, as most have their baby snakes ready to go by then.

I agree with SnakeBite.. the OCt shows are usually the better ones. It would be nice to see a vendor whos main focus is on boas. I overheard alot of people commenting that they wished more boa sellers were there. Would it be worth it to come to Diego from Texas? hmmmmm. For the oct show I will say yes. ON top of that you can meet more of us Diegans that show up here in the forums =)

This show represent one of the earliest shows of the year on the West Coast. A lot of the snakes available were last years holdovers and also snakes that were sold by brokers or retail stores. The BEST selection of boas and pythons occurs later in the year, at the July or October show. By then, everything is out(Hatched or born) and has fed several times if not more. There were more product vendors at this show it seems. Some nice looking retics on display and an American Alligator also. Neat stuff to look at.

*Cheers*

I live in the Phoenix, Az area and love to go to reptile shows. Only Phoenix shows are VERY SMALL. WHY??? I've read and seen photos of shows back east the size of football fields. Tucson has a couple of shows but they aren't much bigger either. Their next show is suppose to be 10,000 sq ft in Aug. What would it take for a hugh show to come to AZ?

I went to the Show in San diego and had to say it was a dissapointment. I kinda expected this but wanted to see what what was avail. I did buy a dumerils boa and it had mites.. but taking car of it now. Next time I buy a snake its gonna be from someone that I know. I'll be going to the May show in Pomona and in oct in San Diego.. I want to buy some more snakes but don't know what I want or have the room for them yet.
