Sighting

Crotaphytuskidd Mar 27, 2004 02:27 PM

Hello friends!
I saw the first DHL of the season for me here in Apple Valley
yesterday. It was a female about 2 1/2" SVL that I found as I was driving a desert road. she just ran out in front of me...
Never found one like that before. heh. Lots of pics that I will post once my scanner is returned to me. Well I hope all is well.

yours,
Phil

P.S. Thank you to Jeff and Lester for answering my question last time, its neat to hear two opinions from pros at the HL thing.

Pretty cool Phil!
We'll have to hook up sometime soon and see what we can find out your way. I have never seen the Chuckwallas or the collards that you talk about.
I am sure it'd be an interesting hike.
Cheers!

I look forward to seeing your pics. In early spring I noticed DHLs spend a large part of the day basking on rocks. I usually drive slowly along dirt roads searching for them to get an estimate of how many are in the area. I've counted 9 in one day. The area is highly disturbed though.

Hello Jeff,

So they sit on rocks, eh? I've never seen that
except in my own. Do they sit differently when on rocks?
I mean, do they lift most of their body off the rock and sit like a Collared Lizard, or do they lay on rocks like a Spiny
or a Chuck? That would be interesting to know. Thanks,

and Cable,
anytime you have free, let me know
and we'll take a hike. =)

-Phil
