I put in some hide places for my boas to retire into, they spend a lot of the day there. I would like to see more of them. Are hideouts necessary for their psychological health?

I put in some hide places for my boas to retire into, they spend a lot of the day there. I would like to see more of them. Are hideouts necessary for their psychological health?
Absolutely, they are very critical in the proper husbandry of your reptile. What I can suggest however, since he/she will most likely be active in the evening, is to get yourself a red night light. Have it timed so that you could enjoy him/her a couple of hours before your bedtime. Cheers
I have the hide (hollowed log) placed so that 3 of the 4 sides are shielded from view and the opening is large and right to the front of the tank. I can see everything inside perfectly and it does the trick just fine. (Imagine a CUBE with one side missing and that side being the front-end facing the viewing glass). It provides a small, secure-feeling environment that the snake can resign to for several hours of the day.
