Help! Domo has a wabble to his walk!

kephy Mar 27, 2004 04:45 PM

We just noticed about 15 minutes ago that when Domo walks, he's got just a slight wabble. Everything else seems fine, he's eating, pooping, arm waving, beard flaring.... totally normal behavior. Just a slight wabble that I don't think I've noticed before.

We can't get him in to the vet until 10 AM tomorrow. Does anyone know what might cause this? I'm really worried.

I'm looking around on the internet about this, and the thing that keeps coming up is vitamin or calcium deficiency.

I dust his crickets with Dragon Dust insect dusting formula everyday. That is supposed to have all the right amounts of calcium and vitamins, and from what I've read everyone who recommended this stuff to me has had no problems.

Also, he has a reptisun 5.0, basking spot at 105 degrees, cool spot at 85. Eats a few bites of greens and rep-cal pellets in the morning, and about 40-60 small crickets a day. Gets a bath almost every day. Grows about an inch every 3 weeks. Very alert.

I mean, I really think I'm doing everything right.

He is in the middle of shedding right now, maybe he's walking funny cuz he's all itchy? I hope I'm over reacting and it's really nothing. I'm a really protective mommy.

When you say wobble...do you mean he's favoring one side, or one leg, or seems off balance like he might fall over?

He's not favoring any side.

What he does is, he'll take a few steps, then when he stops, he kind of wiggles back and forth on his front legs a little.

My boyfriend just made a good comparison.

You know on the old Road Runner cartoons, when RR would stop, he'd bounce back and forth, like "boioioioiiiing." It looks kind of like that.

Doesn't sound like a symptom of anything.....maybe just found out he could do it or something.....keep an eye on him and see if it gets worse.....if it does then a vet visit is in order, but otherwise I would say he is fine......

We've had a few from time to time "wabble" a little bit.. but that was because they were FAT from eating lol... like there bellies were so round they were lazy and didn't bother to walk as much as normal... once they went to the bathroom everything was fine.. but yea, if the belly is really fat and round from eating alot that might be it.

Also very well could be from shedding. They make some really weird moves when they are. Try a quick soak and place something for them to rub up against like a rock in the cage.. it might help.

Well, he didn't eat much today, but he did take a big old poop soon after I posted this thread.

I just finished giving him a bath too. He still is acting funny, but not as bad as before.

Also, he's been making these bark-like noises, and flaring out his beard a lot, then scratching his chin. I'm really hoping the wobbling is just part of his shed-time madness and there's nothing wrong. It just seemed so odd. You know, there's funny/cute odd, and there's make me worry odd. It just made me worry.

But other than this strange behavior, he's acting totally normal. Had a nice bath, and clutched onto my hand. Rode around on my shoulder. I tested his balance by putting him on my hand and slowly turning my hand over, and he held on fine.

I still may take him to the vet tomorrow if he's still wobbling in the morning. For now we're just keeping a close eye on him.

Well, we've been keeping a VERY close eye on Domo. The more I think about it, the more I think I was just overreacting. Today he seems completely normal. We've decided to hold off on the vet and just watch him very closely.

Thanks to everyone who responded last night. I really needed that to help calm my nerves. I panicked, and I think I just needed a reality check.
