What sort of pool are you shooting for? How big?

My goal is to either use a large plastic tub and sink it into a hole in a wooden enclosure or shape a pool out of wood, plaster, white elastomeric (flexible, waterproof) paint and epoxy. I'm shooting for a cage 6-8 ft l x 4 ft w x 6 ft

1. Fix-All plaster
2. four different layers of waterproofing, starting with an epoxy coat, then two coats of an elastomeric paint and then a final coat of epoxy.Enviro-Tex and is a 1:1 epoxy

I want to creat a circuit for the water to go through and hear suggestions on how to keep the water clean and smelling good

The best way would be to have the water circulate through a wetland system, this could be set up outside of your tank, or as part of it. I had one set up in my tank. They consist of a second tub equal in size to your pond, with a layer of lava rocks, a grate, and a level of moss and plants. You just use a larger pump to move the water from the first pond into the wetland section. Mine had an overflow that went back into the first pond. With this system you never have to change the water, you just have to add fresh water when the water level gets too low. Any sort of mechanical filter system would have to be taken apart and cleaned often, since dragon poop is quite large.

That's a good idea. How thick should the layer of lava rocks be, and what kind of grate did you use? Did you mix spagnuhm moss, or did you use a different type, and the plants together? Did that take care of any oders?

I appreciate it,

I just had a single layer of lava rocks, about half an inch high, but my pond was only about 12 gallons. The more the better, although they can be pricy. I used egg crate for the grate, it is sold in home depot as a flourescent lighting diffuser. Basically it is a white plastic grate. I used a thisk layer of spagnum moss, and planted pothos into the moss. I used some river rocks to hold the plants in place until they took root. There are some pics in the photo gallery.
