Does anyone have a good argument that can reasonably compel someone to choose to NOT use dog food (that contains NO dyes and has an appropriate pro/carb/fat content) to feed a colony of breeding rats?

Not really. The whole "it's dog food not rat food" is kind of out.
If you do a little research on rats they eat both meat and grains which the cheap dog food has. And it is high in protiene which pregnant and nursing rat mothers need.
