How much bigger will she get??

lilbitlizz Jun 12, 2003 04:09 PM

Hey, I posed this question in an earlier message, but the subject was misleading, so I'll try again as I'd like more response:
I have a female ( I think) BCI. I was told she's around 10 years old from the previous owner, but she's been in the same size habitat for at least 7 of those. Will she grow any bigger than she already is if she is kept in this habitat? Are snakes like fish in this respect? I"m hoping she doesn't...

Snakes aren't like fish. They grow thier entire lives. but at ten years she has done her growth spurt and will grow very little.

Yes snakes grow thier entire lives and no they aren't like fish. In that respect their growth really isn't determined by their enclosures. The main aspect of growth is nutrition. If adequate nutrition is given a snake will continue to grow. An example of this is the 20 ft retics in 8 ft enclosures. Granted boas aren't retics but that is where my experience is in. I'm new to boas myself. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

you are never judged until you are face to face with an APBT

at 10 years old, that snake is finished as far as significant growth is concerned.
as for your signature, please change it, it doesn't give the best impression of the beautiful breed.

i agree with john,i must get judged on a daily baseis,

In this situation Kasper is right, she is pretty much done with her growth unless she was under fed and then may grow more with proper nutrition I believe. Retics will reach their 20 ft lengths in their growth years and even they slow way down later in life. My oldest boa that I have owned since it was born is 5 yrs old now and it is under seven ft and has grown less than six inches in the past year. Boas first four years are the years that they will grow the most. BCC are the exception to that rule. I believe it takes them around 6-7 years to reach their max size.
Hope I have helped, Chris

fish do not grow to the size of there tank.
if you put a baby oscar in a fish bowl will it not out grow it ?
only if you starve it but if you feed it like you should it will be bigger than the bowl.
if i put you in a card board box when your a baby are you gonna grow to the size of your enclosure or are you gonna outgrow it?
if the enclosure is big enough you have no worries if you think its too small get a bigger 1 bigger is better imo

If you put an Oscar in a bowl, you'll have a dead oscar ^_^.

But, yes, given good water conditions, fish will grow to their adult length. Given bad water conditions, they will be sickly and die early. Tank size nonwithstanding.

I've seen a three foot pacu with its lip deformed because it outgrew a 125 gallon tank.

No worries - the enclosure is plenty big. Lots of room for her to stretch out and crawl around.
