thefiradragon Mar 27, 2004 11:41 PM

i have a female ball python that is about 2.5 years old, and she has been refusing to eat for the last 3 months. before then she was a terrific eater, never refusing a meal. any ideas as to why shes not eating?

thanx

Hi Ashley,

It's pretty normal for ball pythons, especially those approaching adult size, to go off feed during the winter months. Some balls only eat six months out of the year!

Anyway, look for her to begin eating sometime in April, or maybe May. Nothing to worry about!

my big girls are off feed and have been since the begining of november. in fact one is now in shed . i look for them to start eating again real soon. all my young balls stopped feeding for 2 months and have since all resumed feeding as of last weekend. it is nerve recking but just be patient. make sure you kepp their temp right and humidity in check and keep water available and you will be fine.

Well its good to hear that this a totally normal occurance. I have had my bp for about 4yrs now, and this is the first time it has gone off feed. It didnt eat for over 2months then like 3 weeks ago it took a med. rat, but I gave it food last night, and didnt want anything to do with it. I know Im probably worrying for nothing, but its discouraging when it happens.
