grace is not a characteristic of a hognose...

well..today...my hog was extremely active...and it would keep trying to crawl vertically toward the screen of my 10 gallon tank...but eventually she would flop over and land on the ground again...and continue and continue and continue until i couldn't bare to watch her flop and flop...agility is definitely not present in the hognose gene...then she got smarter...she would try to tackle the driftwood...and start from there...so shes climbing and climbing...until flop...shes back on the ground again...its pretty funny...these snakes got some character...but once i put her in her feeding box...shes a whole different snake...once shes in there...ur hands gotta be outta there..."shes goes for the pinky like its going outta fashion"...*steve erwin saying*...after she was done i would expect her to settle down on the warm side..instead she goes to the cool side and does her flopping act for about 20 minutes...didn't anyone tell her its not healthy to exercise 2 hours prior to eating?...oh...i had a question...about when would my hog start going off feed in the winter..like what age...2?..3?..and how i would go about it...should i still offer food...or do i forget about it...until jan/feb....do i lower the temps right when she stops eating?...

You're right about a lack of grace when climbing. They are definatly not as agile as cornsnake. It sounds to me like she just needs to get used to her new home. As for when she will go of feed, consider yourself lucky she is eating now. Many hogs (including mine) go off feed the first year of their life. It's just what they do. I finaly got my male back on feed after 6 weeks to the day with a little toad scenting. I scented on and he was all over it, and since then he is back on unscented f/ts with gusto. Just don't panic if (and most likely when) she stops eating.

Jim

P.S. I saw the pics you posted earlier and she is a beautiful little girl. Congratulations!

..heheh okay...i guess im lucky...i made sure she was eating before i bought her...i went to see it eat 2 weeks prior so i saw her eat 2 at 2 feedings..and she was all over the pinky...i used to buy from shows...but ive had some negative experiences........do u know any breeders at shows that will show u their animals eat...i mean i would be willing to pay the price of the mouse...but last time i bought a male okeetee corn snake...baby...and he said he ate...so i believed him...he never gave me records or anything...so i guess it was my mistake...but i tend to give people the benefit of the doubt...i just got the okeetee cuz it was cheap...20 bucks...im gonna try my luck on the pomona show in May...probably to get another hog ... but we'll have to see...the okeetee died like 2 weeks after...it didn't eat whatsoever...it died two days before i scheduled an appointment with a vet...i was gonna have it checked and force fed...horrible...im sure there are some breeders at shows that don't just wanna get rid of animals...but im quite weary now...do u guys know any hog breeders that go to IRBA shows that usually provide quality hogs?
