New Camera and you can guess the rest

freezermink Mar 28, 2004 02:43 AM

Jimmy finally shed and i thought maybe i'd get some pics of him with the new camera. unfortunately, he decided to crawl around at about mach 10. i dunno why he was so active, but it was crazy. i took about 30 pics and i only got about 5 that weren't blurry. (it doesn't help that we're in a basement apartment with crazy lighting...). so here are a few that i could salvage. i'll get some good ones of him outside tomorrow. he just shed today and i measured just about 2 inches longer than last month. he's almost 6 months old right now.

by the way... i'm not really familiar with all the morphs. i know he's an amel, but does he look like a creamcicle to you? i've been told that a few times, but i thought i'd ask you guys. theres really no pink or red hues on him, just bright oranges and yellows. any ideas? thanks-

It is kind of hard to tell but it does kind of look like a creamsicle to me.
To get pictures of him place in the container with a hide box or water bowl that you can let him curl up under for a few minutes.
Then just lift the container off and snap a few pictures before he moves.
This is how I usually get my photos. I will also use a dome light positioned about 3 feet over the container to get some good light.

I dont know it is hard to tell by the light...But he looks a lot like mine which is an Amel. Motley phase...or that is what I am told...hey you say yours is 6 months old right? How long is it it looks the same age as mine does and it would be nice to know how old mine is. Oh yeah to measure them can you just measure there shed skin right?

yeah the shed skin is exactly 21". and he's a late 2003, so i guess he's doing pretty well. i'll have to try using the hide trick to get some good pics. its gonna be a really nice day today though, so maybe i'll take him for a walk and snap a few.

Hey I have a creamsicle corn. I measured his last shed at about 20 inches. Mine must be a late 2003 also. I don't know how to really tell the difference between an amel and a creamsicle, but my creamie basically has a pale orange to white background and pretty orange saddles, so looking at yours, I personally would hesitate to call it a creamsicle. Then again, I'm only an amateur herper!!! So take my opinion for what it's worth. I wish that I had a digital camera. I would post some pictures if I could! Mine looks a lot like the one on my web site (see link below) except for older and longer.

sheds can stretch better to get a fexlible tape and messure the snake.

freezermink Mar 28, 2004 05:44 PM

yeah that pic is definitely more pale than my corn. i just really don't know much about them. all the regular amels i've seen have the salmon or reddish color to them so i've been leaning to the creamcicle side. the pics that i put up aren't the best representation for this discussion though...they're a little more saturated than he normally looks. i'll get some outside shots today or tomorrow and maybe it'll help...? thanks for all the info so far guys-

Remember that Amel. change A LOT when they get full grown (atleast from pics that say they are Amel.) And I am pretty sure Creamies do too. But I am not to sure...I just go to google.com images and type in what morph I want to see pics of.

good idea. so i did that and found this site ( Here)... it lists regular creamsicle and orange creamsicle corns. i didn't know there was a distinction, but my corn is definitely between the colors of those posted on that site. anyone else have some input? its not really a pressing concern, i'd just like to know all i can about my corn. thanks guys...

The picture I attached in the previous post is a picture of a creamsicle from a reverse okeetee/creamsicle project.
It is very hard to tell with your snake.
It's 50/50. I've seen creams like that and amels like that.
I still lean slightly towards cream just due to the orange but hey what do I know...lol

Looks a lot like my Amel. Motley but like I said I think they start to look a lot different when adults. Yous has a lot more orage so I would be betting it is a Orangesicle...but that is only my best bet.

First let me say thats a real pretty Amel. I assume you know a creamsicle is a cross between a corn and a emoryi rat. Most creams will have a lot softer orange like a creamsicle ice cream bar. If it was sold to you as a Amel, it probably is. I definatly don't see any motly at work here. Just my opinion, good luck. Jim

yeah, i've been reading as much as i can about the subject as of late. the problem is (and i hope i'm not gonna open a big ol' can-o-worms here) that i bought it at Petco, and they had no idea what morph it was. the one guy wasn't even sure it was albino, which is uh... pretty obvious. i had read up on the care of the snakes for about a month before i decided to get him, but at the time i didn't know i had so many other options as to where to get him. but he's very healthy and active and i'm glad i got him from there if only to keep him from the wrath of the pet store. thanks for all the info guys-

I'm not gonna bash you for buying at Petco.Alot of Petcos get their snakes from a very big and reputable breeder. Luckily you bought your before they had time to hurt it .
