Possible Impacted Dumeril... Help appreciated

biscuit71 Mar 28, 2004 08:21 AM

The other day i was getting my New Dumeril out of its cage to feed it, and it took a snap at me (he hasnt had much interation before i got him) and he managed to get some aspen into his mouth. He proceeded to swallow the Aspen. MY question is, will this cause a problem in him, or am I just stressing for no reason. Is there anyhting I should watch for? Any outward signs? I just want to get a jump start on things should i have to act soon. He is about a 2 feet in length now, so i would think this would be more serious now as opposed to when he is full grown. Thank you for your help......

Your dumerils should be fine. If anything, just make sure he isn't having trouble digesting food. However, if swallowing one small piece of aspen has you this concerned, you may want to consider using newspaper for bedding. It works great, is much quicker to clean than wood shavings, and is far cheaper!!! Hope this is what you needed/wanted to hear. Take care!

He actually had a fair amount in his mouth... he kept yawning and moving his mouth to ball it all up, then he swallowed it. He did poop yesterday, so it seems everything is still moving atleast. I will keep an eye open and see what happens... thank you for your help. Put my mind at ease...
