hatching

kyleolover Mar 28, 2004 09:22 AM

I had one egg from my first clutch laid hatch over night, an adorable baby, but the other egg from the same clutch hasn't hatched yet, is this normal?
Also my babies are the product of a jungle female and a blizzard male, I thought jungle was linebred but the baby looks normal.. hmmmm, any thoughts?

females take long to hatch then males. or the egg may just not b fertile. and with the jungle, well the baby may have receaved ifs normal phase from a grandparent.
just a thought

Could be genes I dont know about, I just thought jungle was always passed on, maybe I'm wrong... Thanks for the thought...

that weve only cracked the serface of leopard gecko genes. theres so meny things that are unpradictable with it. as far as i kno jungle is a line trait, but when you breed it with a leo that isnt a jungle then any thing could happn.

I have had clutchmates hatching a day apart this year. One even went 3 days. Just leave it alone unless something really doesn't look right.

These are clutchmates. They look compleatlly different.
They are from crossing a SHCT with a Hypo tangerine.
So you never know what you will get sometimes.
Every clutch that hatches from this female they look something like this, very different in color and pattern.

Can you get us a pic of the little one??! lol...I'm a sucker for the pics! Anyway, as far it not being jungle...yes, jungle is a linebred trait...which means that there are a lot of different genes that cause the appearance. That also means that when you breed a jungle to a non-jungle you're basically gambling with what the outcome will be...you may or may not end up with more jungles. It's very unpredictable as there are so many factors that play a role...i.e. the actual number of genes controlling the appearance, how many of the genes have to be recessive to contribute, if the non-jungle parent has any genes that will contribute...and I'm sure there's more than that. And actually, since there is so much affecting the final appearance...even two jungles may not always produce jungle babies! Anyway...hope that clears things up for you more than it confuses you...lol I hope the other one hatches!
