AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION 26 March 04 Dr Bones solves croc attack mysteries (Reporter: Judy Kelly, Presenter: Margaret El-Chami)
Since 1985, there's been 11 fatal crocodile attacks recorded across Northern Australia and in 10 of these cases, human remains have been recovered.
The process of extracting the human remains and piecing together the body to solve the mystery is the domain of forensic pathologist, Dr Wally Wood.
Now retired, Dr Wood spends much of his time lecturing pathology students about the very specialised field that dominated much of his life.
He worked mostly in Australia but spent time in Dunedin, NZ as well but found his forte in retrieving remains from crocodile attacks, attracting the title of Dr Bones.
While it appearing grisly from an outsider's perspective, Dr Wood maintains it's deeply satisfying to help solve mysteries and ultimately give families closure to these tragic ordeals.
