Hi,
what has worked well for me is reptibark substrate, with a water bowl, that I use water from my fish tank, as it is unchlorinated. I change out that water bowl every four or five days. Otherwise they seem to do great with this set up. I have fed crickets, mealworms, and even new born pinkie mice! So far so good. But I feel the best diet is crickets. Getting stuff from outside, well, you don't know if it ever ran into any pesticide which could cause trouble for your toads. Best of luck.
