Pics of Aquariums

MontyPython03 Jun 12, 2003 04:45 PM

I was wondering if anyone has any pics of thier enclosuer for their BP. I don't know what i am doing wrong, but i can't seem to get the hot spot of the aquarium about 82 during the day, i use a UTH and Heat lamp during the day, and at night i just turn off the light, which drops the temp down to about 70, on the hot side, not sure about the cooler side, i have one of those Thermometers that sticks on the glass, so maybe i'm just measuring the heat of the glass? Also what is a good way to raise the humidity? I have a good sized water dish but haven't seen humidity go past 70. Thanks for any help!

those stuck-to-glass thermometers only measure the temp of the glass or the ambient air temps.

I suggest getting a temp gun (Radio shack has em cheap as IR thermometers) and checking the temp of the floor.

If you want to do it a cheap way-take a stick-on thermometer and stick it to the floor.

For humidity, if you're using a glass aquarium, put a towel over one side of the screen top (away from the lamp!) and put a small dish of water slightly over the top of the UTH.

hope that helps.

82 in the day??? Thats way too low for a ball. I'll bet your using one of those crappy stick on thermometers.....I had one that was about 30 degrees WRONG. Get a good digital thermometer, you won't regret it.

I think 30 degrees is a good temperature for ballpythons if it's a European thermometer which shows 30C and not 30F.

The thermometer strips you stick on the glass are for aquariums with water only as the glass will be the same temperature as the water, but with air on both sides of the glass, the thermometer shows a temperature somewhere in the middle of the cage temp and the room temp.

Cheers,
Bas

I meant that the stick on thermometer was 30 degrees OFF.....meaning that the therm. said it was 75 on the hot side and in reality it was 105!!! I found out after getting a god digital therm.

70 % humidity is WAYYYY too much for balls as well......you need to lower the humidity to around 30-50% or just plain room humidity. If you keep it at that % you'll have a respiratory infection on your hand, plus it promotes fungal growth.
