sick female cham

justchams Mar 28, 2004 12:40 PM

Hi,

I have an adult panther female, and she is not moving much, not eating, she is very fat and displays some saliva in her mouth. She is not gravid and it does not seem like a respiratory problem. (cage set up, temps, humidity, water... are optimum).

I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow but was wondering if somebody here can give me a heads up on what could be the problem.

thanks.

Describe "very fat" and "some saliva" a little more in depth. Like: suddenly bloated vs. gradual fattening; a puffy fatness vs firm, hard belly; gular swelling vs torso; can't see ribs or nobs of vertebrae anymore, etc. Are her legs "puffy", or look different to you? How is her "gripping strength" compared to before? What is her attitude compared to her norm? What is her food intake, and is she passing feces as regularly as before? Has there been any kind of recent husbandry change (moved cage, new light, changed supplement brand, etc)? Please supply a picture if possible to illustrate "fatness", and describe saliva better as well.

She has been fat for a while (she was a very good eater). She has a firm, hard belly. During palpation no eggs are noticeable. As far as the saliva she displayed a little bit today for the first time. Behaviorally speaking she has been gradually less active. Not eating for the last 4 days, droppings have also decreased to none for the last 2 days.
