Feeding Leos with Tweezers

beakgeek Mar 28, 2004 01:14 PM

I was at a friend's house last weekend and he was about to feed some of his geckos - not leopard geckos. He used tweezers to feed them which I thought was interesting. He said he does it for two reasons. One, he can keep track of how much they are eating. Two, he has had a reaction to an excretion generated by the superworms.

I feed both crickets and superworms to my leopard geckos so I have started feeding the superworms to them with tweezers. At first they were a little hesitant, but now they grab them right away. The worms move a lot when pinched which I think makes the leos go for them so quick. The cool thing is now I know exactly how many superworms they get and I make sure they all eat.

my husband uses tweezers to feed, mostly because he kills the worms picking them up cuz he isnt used to it. but if your not to worried about how much they ae eatting then id say let them hunt a little, its got to be better for them mentaly!

I use a spoon when scooping the food items out of the shake'n bake, and if they're quick enough the geckos will get the food before i put it in the dish.
I don;'t really like the idea of leaving mealworms in a dish, unless you count the amount before and after to figure out how many they've exactly eaten.
