Raising side of tank so no escapes?

Garret_L Jun 12, 2003 04:50 PM

I just got the largest size of the Turtle Rep turtle ramp, very nice, sturdy, quality produst. My problem is that the ramp is so big that if I put it up to high theres a good chance my 2 turts could escape. If I put it to low I have to severly lower my water level. Does anyone have any ideas how I could make something to stop my turtle from escaping? I would love to see some pictures if anyone else is having this problem. I would like something that could be removed incase I sell the tank and get a new one. I like to be able to watch my turtles but Ill settle for function over looks. Thank you for any help.

well,
(1) get a fishtank canopy. This is basically just a wooden box that sits on top of your tank but which is high and closed at the top. you can even mount your basking lights from it.

(2) since a canopy is just a wooden box, make one. or better, make half of one. make a wooden perimeter around the top of your tank but give it a "lip" so it rests on your tank. don't bother making a top. Then you can mount any lights (even clamp lamps) on the side and keep the water as high as you like
(3) buy this thing that this dude at the classifieds has for sale. its new. i have never used it but it looks like it would work
