Crested won't eat CGD out of bowl....

Kati33 Mar 28, 2004 01:27 PM

My little guy is growing fairly well, but we are still having problems with feeding. I feed him crickets once a week (when all the other herps eat) in a seperate container and he eats fine. But for some reason he won't take baby food/CGD out of a bowl in his tank or in his cricket feeding container. If I put it in a syringe, he will lap it up readily. Any tips to get him to eat out of a bowl? I don't mind syringe feeding him every other day, but I'll be gone all summer and I'm not sure if my husband will be as willing! Having him eat from a dish would make life a lot easier!

I would switch to using a small lid for now, like a babyfood lid. You can monitor whether it is eating from it better by not filling it all the way. Leave it over night, even up to 2 nights. You will see if it is eating any this way.
good luck

So you can leave CGD in for multiple days? How many days before it usually goes bad?

i have found that it either:
1. dries up after one day or
2. is too wet and becomes moldy after a few days (found this out early on when i was misting WAY too much)

anyway, from my experience and everyone i've talked to about it the CGD should get eaten from the lid/small dish if it is the only thing offered for 3 days or so.

I put mix it and put in my cages at night. I leave it that night and the following night and remove the next morning. then i skip a day and start over.

The "bowl" that I use is pretty flat and has less of a ridge than a baby food lid does. The first night I had him he ate out of it fine, but since then he just walks through it like its not even there, and definately doesn't eat out of it. Could color be an issue? The one I have is white, should I go for a darker color?
