Question

I was thinking about selling my tangerine honduran (female) because I am a student and I don't have the time to take her out and give her the attention she deserves. I want to know that she is going to a better home...has anyone sold their snakes in the classifieds here? Is it mostly people who know about snakes that buy from those classifieds? I'm worried that if I try to sell her locally, some kid's parents is going to get her to teach their child responsibility and she'll have it even worse off or something. What would you all recommend I do?

interview prospective buyers. make it clear if they call that the snake's not simply up for grabs, that you're actively seeking a good home for it. if necessary, visit the potential buyer's house to see how he cares for what he already owns--that will be less work for you than the rigors, and worries, of shipping. also, ask at local science centers, parks with animal displays, whatever--they may know someone who'd be interested.
if that doesn't work, the classifieds usually find good homes for animals. It should be especially easy to find a home for a breeding size female honduran because most hondo breeders would be able to put her to immediate use, at least if you brumated her. Most of the people breeding hondos are pretty nice people and responsible caretakers.
