Hey all,
Today temps. were around 65 but it was really sunny, so I decided to see if I could find some snakes. Went to my usual spots, on the way I found an adult Shorthead garter snake emerging from a crevice in the wall, as soon as it landed on the ground it attempted to flee, I was able to catch it though. Upon looking at the snake, I discovered something very unusual about it, it had what looked to be a "horn" sticking out of the left side of it's head, I don't know how the injury happened, or how the snake managed to survive it but it seemed to be in otherwise good condition.
About 15 minutes later, after searching under many rocks and debris, I saw a snake coming down the hill. My eyes aren't too good but the snake got close enough for me to identify it as another Shorthead, after I captured it, I went to yet another good snake-hunting area. Just as I arrived I found another adult Shorthead that recently got ran over by a car, it was somewhat stuck to the ground, I lifted it off the ground and let it go near some bushes, it looked to be in a condition where it may live, as they were not life-threatening wounds.
I also found a DOR Brown Snake and that was the end of my herping trip for the day.
I didn't get pics of any of the snakes, but I'm hoping to find the snake with the "horn" once more so I can get a pic and show you guys.
