What a road weve traveled..

leopfan Mar 28, 2004 03:58 PM

In summary, juvenile gecko home happy eating like a champ for a week then it all began. Gooey poops to no eating, to skinny and weak. Vet visit, meds, baby food and liquid diet for another week or so. (all that was one month) Finally eating one mealie to next night two mealies and as many as 4 mealies. I sat back and said PHEW hooray Im outta the woods........hasnt eatin in two days now. This has been one hell of an undertaking. Im pretty sure at this point the crickets I had gave her worms. No poop= no fecal sample for vet. Treated with panacur because all symptoms pointed to worms. Sigh, let this be a lesson.. crickets and pet stores = high risk!!

In case you might be wondering. My girl lives in a better house than me lol. Temps are 85 to 90 day. Night temps 75-80 red light.
Moist hide misted daily and shes shed great everytime. Fresh water daily dusted mealies everynight. Uneaten ones taken out in AM. Cool hide, digital thermometer the whole 12 yards :P Substrate is 3/4 tile rest paper towel in a 20g long. How long now till I hit the panic button and go back to a vet, or panacur treatment or force feed etc...

Im an adult and I dont see a child going through all this. It has taken alot of my time and alot of my money. Hats off to all the have been down my road.

Maybe Im venting maybe Im healing either way it felt good to get this off my chest

Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry to hear she's not doing well!!... The panacur may have just not gotten all the worms (assuming that's the problem), panacur does work on most...but there are some it doesn't get and some that are resistant. I would try another dewormer...don't give up now...you've done so much for her already! It may just take a different wormer to get her happy and healthy permanently! I really hope she starts doing better for you...it sounds like you're doing everything right!

considering panacure is about the safest wormewr you can get everything else is much more harsh on the animal and its renal system... so more worming could kill her... i would try some nutri bac... to establish the correct stomache flora..... alot of times it helps also in stimulating any type of appitite if they have one.........

Oh I didn't even think of that! Thanks for saying it!!...Could he also try some parazap? It's a natural wormer and an apetite stimulator and its supposed to be entirely safe...

parazap never hurt nobody! it also requires a strict regime though. make the tea, cool the tea, feed the tea, every day for 2 weeks! i would always suggest it, though to anyone who has an illing herp.

good luck, and i hope she gets better soon.

Do you happen to know if heating it and putting it in water is actually necessary?...because I know they have directions for dog and cat food that you can just just put it on the food. I just mix some t-rex sandfire leopard gecko icb dust and some parazap together when I dust feeders...I don't know how much they actually get that way...but they do get it every day...

no, it is not necessary, but that is the best way, in my opinion, to administer parazap and be sure your gecko is getting the correct dosage for it to do its job properly. with dog food and cat food, you probably know how much they are eating, so you can put the right amount of parazap in the amount of food that you know they are going to eat. you can definitely shake some cricket in it, but like you said you can't know how much your little one is getting.

it is great to dust their cricket with it--i do it too sometimes--especially as a preventative measure, but when i've got a sick gecko--or dragon--or any of my little ones, i don't want to take the risk of using it and having it not work right.

yeah...none of mine are sick...I just do it preventatively. I was just wondering if you knew

Hi

NO, this isn't a fun road to ride on, but if riding this road we must, then riding this road we will.

We ride this road, like gallant knights in shining armor, to try and save those we love so much.

Take Care, TLB
