rinoa05_1987 Mar 28, 2004 05:34 PM

hello,
i am getting my first juvinile leo tomarrow. i was wondering how long should i wait to feed them? is there a specific brand of clacium that i should get for her/his calcium dish? i think i have everything figured out except those few things. also what should she eat the first few times, and can a juvi be fed mealies?

How big is the little one gonna be? You'd probably be fine to feed it mealies. As far as dust...if you get T-Rex Sandfire super foods ICB dust (You don't have to get the leopard gecko dust...all the different ones are the same...just marketed for different species) you don't need a calcium dish at all.

i'm not sure how big they'll be i didnt get to see them because they were hidding. i'm getting him/her from a pet store. i know i should be going for a breeder but i like to get animals from a pet store and "save a life" i would adopt but leo's are so popular they are never up for adoption.also how long should i wait before handling her. i've heard one week but isn't that too soon to be bothering it?

I would totally leave it alone for the first 2-3 days, but when you feed it see how it reacts. No matter how many leos you have, and hope the breeders agree with me, its impossible to tell when or if they'll ever warm up to you.
There's many posts later on that suggest you put your hand in the cage for small intervals so the gecko will know your scent and that you're not a threat or only there to offer food.

good luck
