Is Beardie a lesbian?

SherryLynnZ Jun 12, 2003 05:09 PM

Hi. I have 4 adult beardies, one male and 3 females. I figured my male would have a field day with them all, but it's weird, he only breeds with one of them. He has tried to breed with the others, but they are both prude. They are old enough to breed, but just won't. Do you think that they just don't like him? Or maybe could the other 2 females be lesbian? Ha! Anyways...
I've been thinking of getting a new male and see if they take an interest in him. What do you all think?

I have several females who are picky about who they will mate with.......so maybe that's it.....I don't know how old your girls are, but I've had a couple that wouldn't except a male until 2 years old, and they were placed with males for breeding starting at 18 months.....so maybe they are just not ready either.

They have a pecking order... A couple years ago I had BD's with similar issues. I even witnessed a female mount the male! He turned all dark and tried to hide in the corner for months! The deed got done though, cause his girls laid 4 clutches of fertile eggs each that year.

Hmmm... Beardie is almost 3 years old and has lived with the male since she was about a year and a half. He also never tried to breed with her until I got the other female that he breeds with. After he did her, then he's tried the two other females I have. I know it was his first time and that particular female, but as for the other female, Knobby, I don't exactly know her age or if she's ever bred before. My male is also almost 3 and the bred female is almost 2 I would say. Maybe it's that young meat he's after. Geeze, my bd is a petifile! Toghether they had three clutches and only one clutch hatched last year. We had trouble with our incubator (a hovabator) so we decided on the third clutch we'd make our own, and it worked! We've hatched beardies, green snakes, leopard geckos, and box turtles in there. The thing works great. I wrote up my own instructions on how to set one up, and if anyone is interested, just email me and I'll send it to you! You can email me at SZcooter83@AOL.com
Thanks again for your input!
