urgent question about bum leg gecko

yellermelon Mar 28, 2004 06:40 PM

sisters boyfriends gecko has bum leg. possibley pulled out of socket, she acts like she cant support herself on it and collapses. another option could be mbd. does anyone know if mbd can cause this or if it would be a dislocation, if its a dislocation then can it be fixed by a good vet (wich we do not have around here) any info is helpfull.

IT IS AT THE HIP.

does she appear to be in pain? do you think it is a break or a dislocation? i was going to suggest a splint if it was on her knee...i found a picture online of a chinese water dragon that had a dislocated leg at the hip and it had a splint on--wrapped around the leg and the tail to prevent movement. i don't think that would be a good idea for a gecko though. i would say to take her to a vet right away. if it is a dislocation, sometimes they can just pop it back in place.

also, have you tried posting in the kingsnake health and breeding forum? i don't think it is frequented as often as this one, but you may get lucky. there seems to be a lot of very knowledgeable people on there.

i wish i could help more...

ok, thanks for your help. we have one reptile vet in my parts and hes not real.....good. ive checkked all the "vet finders" on internet and called every vet within an hour drive and i still come up empty handed. if it is somthing a "bird reptile" sorta ok vet can do then im ok if not then.....i will now go to the health forum thank you.

if its just a dislocation or possibly even if its a break a vet who has any experience with reptiles should be able to help...assuming they at least know that leos can drop their tails at will...lol You wouldn't want him trying to splint a leg to the tail..lol

It could be MBD... what you are describing is a symptom. Do you know how she was fed and supplemented before? Was/is she housed with another gecko and suffered an injury? Could she have been mishandled or taken a fall?
