my parents and my breader where the ones holding me back ! i told them ima do wat i think is right so i did and now i here thanx man u gave me the proff i needed she gunna be in there for about 4 months and when she become adult i gunna put her wit my male for the rest of her life... they will do just fine

StinaUIUC Mar 28, 2004 11:01 PM

Just to warn you, you may need to end up keeping them separate forever. Keeping one male and one female together can put a LOT of stress on the female if the male is constantly trying to breed with her. Once they're large enough and you put them together just make sure and keep an eye on her that she doesn't get too stressed. Obviously this will be months in the future...lol but just so you know. You'd still be able to breed them...but you'd have to put one in the other's tank for a short period of time so they can breed and then separate them again. You might not need to do that...but just so you know that you may.

you might be able to keep them together...you can try when they both large enough and see how the female does.

i would say that means she isnt as stressed out right ?

StinaUIUC Mar 28, 2004 11:45 PM

Yeah that's probably what it means...she is exploring her new surroundings...let us know if she starts eating better.

yeah, to be sure 2 females would have been better...but i have not had problems keeping a male and a female together for long periods of time. actually, what usually happens for me is that the male loses interest in the female for breeding. i have to take him out for a while and then reintroduce him with her. it's like he gets too used to being around her.

hopefully your geckos will be just fine...

and for your other post about her being out more...that's great news. i agree that she is exploring her new surroundings, and it probably means that she is a lot happier there.

good luck,

amanda

she from a breader of a breader if u know wat i mean... the guy i bout her off of said he gave her crickets. which i doubt cause she aint going 2 them, so i am going 2 get some meal worms and see if she goes for those if she does ut oh i gunna have to work more lol.... wat do u think ?

GoldenGateGeckos Mar 29, 2004 04:08 AM

She is probably stressed out from being in a new environment, especially being housed with another larger gecko. Once she has been in her own enlosure, she will calm down and start eating.

well, the temperment and her eating habits doesn't really have anything to do with her being from a good breeder. sure, if she is used to eating crix them maybe she won't eat mealies. i still think the bowl of mealworms is the way to go, though. if she doesn't eat any of them maybe she just doesn't know that it's food. you could try hand feeding her one or feeding one to her with some tweezers. just hold the mealie by one end and it will wiggle. hold it about an inch or two in front of the gecko where she can see it and wait to see what happens. she might become interested very quickly! also, you can still offer her crix whenever you are feeding them to your male. i think she should start eating better soon anyway.

no, it shouldn't take too much extra work! i think you just need to relax and let her calm down. you worry too much.

I keep my single pairs together all the time. If anything my females pester the males to get them out of their favorite hides or away from food they particularly like... My boys come out with more small "war wounds" during mating time than my females do *L* But everyone's healthy and happy and laying eggs this season so it works. Not everyone is going to be able to do this though. Some geckos just don't get along..

I keep my males and females together all year long, and they do just fine. Once yours are adults of breeding age and size, I don't see any reason why you couldn't keep them together.
