Feeding that went bad....

Mizar 21 Mar 29, 2004 06:53 AM

Last night my baby gecko was waking up and i threw a "maimed" crix in the enclosure. With almost all leg pull apart, the crix still move around and get in the humid hide, with the gecko ! The gecko see the crix, take a go at it and miss the crix and get some debris off small piece of coconut bark in his mouth !!! I kind of panic and get him out of his hide asap. i dont think he swallow much if he swallow some at all, but now i'm worried sick. The poor gecko was scary as hell...While we were getting him out of the humid hide in the gentlest way possible, he do give us a scare by making a run trough the kitchen...gee, they can be fast. Later i try to put him in a separate container with the crix, but he wont eat them there. I put him back in his enclosure with some really badly maimed crix in his calcium dish and they disapear a few minutes later. Even with all that scare he manage to roam his enclosure a bit last night. About the humid hide, i change the coconut bark for three layer of cloth. The bottom layer is wet. Is that will be ok ? How much wet must it be ? Also this morning when i look up, no gecko in sight, i think he burrow under the cloth in his humid hide.

Any comment on all this is appreciated...No matter how much you think your ready when you bring a new lizard home, your never ready enough...

coconut bark is bad. please stop using it.

the cloth might be fine...i have never heard of anyone using actual cloth...i would suggest just using some paper towel. fold it up so it will fit in the hidebox, wet it, wring it out and there you go! instant humidity.

i'm sorry...i laughed about your baby geck running through the kitchen...anyone who's had that happen to them knows that it's crazy and not funny while it is happening but in retrospect...hahahahaha!

good luck with your baby!
