Market Question for the guys that have been around awile???

jim_perron Mar 29, 2004 01:39 PM

I need to tap into the heads of some guys that have been around the Ball Python Market for some time now.

Here is my question:

What has been the annual price from it's conception to current on the both the Albino and Piebald mutations.

In other words....The Albino was proven by Bob Clark in 1992. What was the market price on a Albino in 1993...then 1994...1995...and so on to current 2004 value.

Same thing with the Pied....Peter Kahl proved it out in 1997. What did a Pied cost in 1998.....99....00 and to date.

this is a question for you data crunchers....come on where are you.....get your spread sheets out.

I'm just looking for some market history. Please don't feel like you need to be exact.....if you have been around a while just take a crack at it. If someone takes a guesstimate at it please don't hammer them if it is not perfect.

Thanks,

Jim

In 1997 the day after proving them out I paid $12,500.00 for a pair of het piebalds. Male pieds were $25,000.00 and females were $15,000.00.

Hope this gives you an idea.

When albinos first hit the market bob clark was sellin' them for $7,500.00 and now they are still selling for $2,600.00. So they do hold there value, but you have to take into account that today's dollar doesn't buy as much as it did 11 yrs ago.

Interesting........does someone have more info on the albino?

Thanks so far

I know amels were sold for $25,000 a pair......not long after they were created.........

.......and now you can get them from $1200 to $3000 depending on what "dumbass' name" you want connected with them and who you get them from.........

.......you can go around $1800 to 2000 easily.....2 years ago.....

.........yep....

..........

................still make money......considering normal balls ,born here in Pa.....wholesale at around $25 or so......if the amel balls go for more....still an improvement......
a $1000 improvement for awhile......

From my recollection from around 1994 through 1999 albinos were about $7500 each and dropped to $5000 in 2000 and have slowly dropped to the $2600-$3000 they are now. Mind you this had less to do with the abundance of albinos as it did with the competition from other morphs. When you take a look at all the different varieties of mutations in ball pythons, which to you choose from? However, quality albinos I feel will hold their relative value (ie over $2000) for a while.

I agree with Rich`s price history, Albinos were NEVER $25000 for a pair. If you have albinos for $1800 let me know, I`ll buy them all. Mark Petros
