They are active at dawn and dusk. This time of year it will likely be only at dusk until it gets warmer. During the day they stay close to cover. They may climb into low brush. They are locally common, meaning that if you are in an area where they live, they should be easy to find. They live in discreet pupulations that may overlap. They prefer wet environments and, in the Carolina's, I have had most luck finding them in coastal swamps. Look in areas right in the coast. It can be disturbed.

Thanks for the info.Have you ever found any around the myrtle beach area?Its driving me crazy that I cant find this little snake.I have found and photographed every type of snake in S.C. except the pig.Any other info would be greatly appreciated.Thanks again,Robert.
South of Myrtle Beach. Look on dirt roads in the "white" swamp areas. Especially on the west side near Arcadia Plantation. They get more active in September. Warm Humid evenings are good from 2 hours before dark to just after.
