I need a better cage plan for veild chameleons

jayskee Mar 29, 2004 04:22 PM

I have two veilds in one reptile mesh cage. It is now time to seperate them, cause their are getting older I need no babies. and need to come up with an easier system of keeping these veilds. It is so much to clean thier cages and I would like to hear some opinons and see some pics of simple setups. Thanks for your help...Joe ...jayskee@comcast.net

This cage is the same concept as the link below, however it was built for a 1.2 Sugar Glider group... It's 7' tall, 3' wide, and 4' deep... It’s made with 1” vinyl coated mesh and 1” PVC… All six sides are constructed individually and connected with zip ties… Without considering time to take out all the play items, it breaks down for cleaning in about 2 minutes and goes back together in about 5 minutes… Just an example of what you can do with this type of building technique…

I have a similar cage designed with half inch vinyl coated mesh without the PVC that houses a veiled cam… I’ll try to post a pic…

Have you and Tracy had to retouch the paint or has it held up?

To anyone interested I've seen Ben's cage in person and it's very nice. I think it would be great for a large chameleon.

The paint has done great... There are a couple spots where the door rubs the frame that have scraped off... Other than that, the paint has stood up against two carwash quality pressure sprays...

These cages are ugly, but work very well. They house Jackson's Chameleons. I built them around the size of a "kitty Litter" tray, to catch all the water and mess. They are 36" tall, 16" wide, 16" deep, approx. They were made from 2 x 2's and I used 1/4" hardware cloth, and have had no problems with it.

I wouldn't be able to live without a big cage door and tray underneath. They make the upkeep much easier.
