Is my burm too small?

rich-k Mar 29, 2004 04:52 PM

He is just 10 months old and not very large compared to other snakes his age is see and hear of. I have read soo much on the health risks of power feeding and all but he is nearly 5 feet only. I hear of 10 footers at a year. He takes a large rat every 5 days(give or take).

Input please!

I think that your burm is right where he should be on a normal maintenance diet. You might want to try bumping his food size up to jumbo rats or small rabbits. 1-1.5 pounders. But honastly I think that your burm being fed like he has been is doing fine. Todd

Nah, he seems fine. If the snake is a male, then theyll grow a little slower. And people getting burms to 10' in the first year...thats a hell of a lot of feeding. Be patient and keep feeding like you are, once every 5 days until he gets to relatively large prey. Nothing to worry about though, your just not power feeding and 5' isnt dangerously small for 10 months
