FBTs & Newts

Quick question, ive heard fire bellied toads can be housed with fire bellied newts because they can stand each others toxins. Is this true?

I have one fire bellied toad in his 29 gall tank and have been redoing the scenery lately and have considered adding a new cage mate. id love to know if they are compatible or not, if not i will just wait till Toadie passes on since this will be his 5th year with me and ive heard they dont live much beyond that.

Thanks ray

p.s. live scenery all the way!

I don't know about compatability but I heard that FBTs can live for 25years ! You may have to wait a long time for him to pass on.

25 years is fine for me, i have no rush, he's actually my fish toad so hes kinda become my buddy. He's actually gone through like 2 cage changes and 3 redecorations of them in his life time. He's even outlived another FBT cage mate i had with him. That was weird, that one never made it past a lil over a year, but Toadie has helf strong!

Right now the tank is 3:1 of live plants and completely flooded save for the log, rocks and small resin grotto. Oh and the half sunk stone head. The tank is reminiscent of something youd see on "travels to the amazon" type shows.

So yea if anyone else knows any other critters that have a compatability with the fire bellies(other than other FBTS) let me know. Id love to add a addition to the ... Rain Forest :D.
Ill take a pic so ya'll can see the "REAL" euthusiast's cage at work .. just playing hehe *runs before the mob ensues*

Most poisinous amphibians get their toxin from the food they eat. These foods are not completely understood and are not available in the pet trade. The result is that your FBT is no longer poisinous.

I had a tank with FBT and FBN for many years. The only problem is that FBTs don't like the water so much. They are a more terrestrial species that live in an area that is frequently flooded and they will tolerate it for long periods of time. Make an area of fast land in the middle and deep water on the sides and front and you will have a great setup for both FBT and FBN.

Good luck and enjoy your little ones.
