I thought some of you king snake guys might like this. We went out in the field here in KY over the weekend to check a few of our tin sites. Well, as you can see, the kings were out in abundance. This is a pic of me and a few of the kings that were found at this site.

Here's a pic of my field partner, KE, with some kings.

The kings in this area are the darkest we know of in the state. We have never collected at this site, and have never taken anyone there. Many of these snakes I am sure we have seen before.

Though not as big as getula or floridana, they do have good size. Some of the kings we saw were at or approaching the five foot range and with good girth. The locals in this area recognize the king as a beneficial species and allow them to live their lives.

It's great to see all those wonderful kings thriving in the comomwealth. Most of my family is in Ky and I spent many a summer camping/fishing in Ky., especially around the Green River area. I would imagine that's still a hotbed for some awsome snakes.

Wow! Thanks for posting the pics. It is interesting that snakes with a reputation for being nippy are handled by the bunches. My nigra is very friendly, and it looks like those w/c were as well!
