What do you guys use for your bigger BPs? I have a 4footer i just got,and its tough finding hides big enough for these guys in the store. Ive only had him a day. Right now hes just curled up on a branch on the floor of his cage in a corner. Any suggestions what to use?

Hi,

I've got a big boy myself. I use a shoe box turned upside down with a "door" cut it the front. He loves it. It's just wide enough to touch his sides. I have to change it out every 6 months or so because the humidity causes the cardboard to get soft but it works out great. Hope this helps.

I use black plastic flower pots. I cut a hole in the side of them and my balls love them.

I use old boxes with a hole cut in the side. I have found the lid to the box that a case of paper comes in is great. and the boxes are free can't beat that.

I use dog bowls, the plastic crock ones. You have to saw a hole in the side, but once that is done it is great. It is even dishwasher safe(I don't do that, but you get my point). I must point out though, if you use them on newspaper substrate, it will get moved around alot.

Check out the pic he's about 4 1/2 feet(the bowl is a jumbo).

I also use the exact same dog bowl as symatic. They work great, have a little weight to them, and clean up easily. I get them at a "tack" shop(horse supplies) for about 4 bucks for the large ones. Every pet store seems to carry them also, this place is the cheapest I have found. There are about four sizes and many colors. Use a jig saw to cut the opening, it takes about 10 seconds.

I get 2-3-inch deep, lidded "Family Dollar-store Tupperware" bowls. Just cut a hole in the side, sand down the edges, and put the container in the cage with the lid facing down. they work great for humid hides; you just put the lid side up and fill with an inch of wet sphagnum.

if you can't find anything you can do what Jeff Favelle does. He simply takes a 12"x12" or 12"x18" wood (5/8" or something like that) and sets them in the enclosure with a space of about 1" to 2" from the enclosure floor using small pieces of wood. I currently use RubberMaid containers or kitty-litter plastic boxes.

Good luck,
Bristen.
